SEO – Search Engine Optimization Techniques You Should Understand

March 14th, 2010

Many people dream of making a lot of money online but they are not sure how to approach the prospect. I can tell this, the first step is understanding how to bring in traffic and how other people bring in traffic. SEO, visibility and traffic is what makes a website popular and in order to make sales or bring in traffic, people must know about it.

Internet marketing techniques involve an array of strategy that is implement. Google and Yahoo and good examples of search engine and in order to become one of the top results in the list that is provide upon keyword search; the key is relevancy. There typically millions of results that are derived from the search and it is usually the top of the list is where the visibility is appropriated.

Spamming the index and keywords has long been known to many as a black hat procedure that is frowned upon by consumers and search engines. They resort to a lot of illegitimate practices which are deemed as unethical and violation of guidelines. Link farming with irrelevant keywords on websites that do not want that to happen is considered a cheat. Tampering with the algorithm of engines will result in nothing positive.

White hat strategy is the most preferred method to gain a reputable reputation and respect of consumers and companies alike. They are known to provide a value by giving relevancy to the keywords used in a search. In not so many words, they do not lead a consumer astray.

Good ethical practices should be followed to maintain the reliability of such keywords and relevancy. Black tactics are nothing but trouble and hardships for the person doing them. Sure, it is easy to do so, but will have an outcome that is more than negative. The techniques involve deception and false advertising and the engines will weed them out if they think that someone is doing it.

A good way to achieve a good amount of traffic would be to join relevant sites and take advantage of your membership in certain sites; after doing so, make sure that you are following the rules and provide helpful information to the consumers that will not degrade the value of the site or your name. It is important to make sure that you have the permission from the owner to use their website to increase traffic. Most of the time, they will let you if the benefits are mutual.

Spinning articles and copying content is what is considered plagiarism. Many black hat innovators will use this as a way to save time and work around the system of algorithms. This usually results in banning the content altogether or possibly legal consequences. Use original content that is not derived from another person’s content.

Meta tagging is a way to tag websites or content that allows the user to understand its relevancy. Meta tagging the relevant content and text is appropriate but there are some who will include irrelevancy just to bring in traffic. This degrades the value of search engines and websites. Particularly, no one wants to look for something and find that they cannot find what they are searching for because of the stuffing of keywords.

SEO – Search engine optimization guidelines are better implemented with integrity and honor as it can promote the credibility of users and website. It is better to use white strategy in order for it to pay off in the long run as the black strategy is usually short lived.

Simple SEO Techniques For Bloggers

March 12th, 2010

It seems like everybody is into blogging these days. That’s why to make yours more popular than the others, traffic must be directed to your site. And it’s in this area is where SEO comes in very handy.

SEO (search engine optimization) is all about optimizing a keyword. Simply put, it helps get your site to the top of the list produced by search engines when someone looks for a particular keyword. Why is it important to get to that top? Well, it’s because most people instinctively click on the very first thing on the list search engines provide. If you can take your post to number 1, just imagine the volume of readers you will have.

If you’re a frequent blogger and you want more readers, fret not. The following are just some simple SEO techniques. By applying them in the right fashion, it’s not unlikely your thoughts will reach more readers.

In building your blog site, try to come up with a solid theme or identity. This way, those you are catering to will find your posts interesting, and your following will snowball. Such also keeps you from sending contradictory signals to search engines.

Keywords are key to take you to that top of the list. Always put your keywords in the tag section of your posts. In addition, you may also include the keywords themselves in your blog titles. For example, you wrote about a small online business you started. For sure there are also other people out there considering starting up their own business via the net. Making the title of your post into something like “How to Start an Online Business Like Mine” will sure appeal to these people.

Aside from placing your keywords, you can make the title attention grabbing too. Place yourself in the shoes of blog readers. Then think if you’d be interested to read about the title you just created. Having an interesting title will make people drop by your site and read. If they get impressed enough, they’re likely to read your previous posts, as well as upcoming ones.

And what better way to complement a click-worthy title than a read-worthy article? As soon as visitors to your site see that everything’s rubbish, they’ll be out of there right away. That’s something you must try to avoid: bounce rates, the number of people visiting then leaving instantly. Make sure that you know how to write and incorporate keywords into your creations naturally.

Speaking of keywords, just how often should the keywords appear in your blog post? The truth is 2-3 times is enough; more than that, it simply is spamming. Repeating the keywords in the prescribed amount makes it easy for crawlers to spot them. Some bloggers even make it a habit to bold or italicize keywords for easy reader spotting.

When choosing a topic on what you’re blogging about, consider those that will catch anyone’s fancy. It can be controversial, mind-boggling, funny or even silly. It can be related to current events – politics, calamities, show business, music and many more.

You may also use popular social networking sites to provide a link to your blog site. Or you can read other people’s blogs, post comments and be an active follower. But no matter which SEO technique you employ, always remember that it may take some time for results to be evident.

SEO Software Techology, tons of kids Today are doing it. All the “cool kids” are doing it, but what about SEO software? Not only because all of those “cool kids” are doing it, but because all of the “successful” ones are. Http://www.seoequalizer.com

Common Mistakes When Building A Website

March 10th, 2010

In a promotional point of view, there are several different tactics you can use when you build a website. We use a system when we’re consulting with a client. Step one, we leverage off whatever we’ve got. We send any links off our own network to sites that we can do. Step two, we do some form of video marketing.

It’s customized each time, but essentially the general steps are take a look at existing resources. If they’ve already got a website or if they’re a franchise, for example, then there are other franchise sites. They have links off the mother ship so to speak. However, let’s just take a small independent business. They’ve had a website up online. They probably have little to no search engine ranking. One of the most beautiful things when you build a website is local search. It’s so huge. If you’re a barber shop, write barber and the city name. If you use this naming convention for your domain name then you’re laughing. So do it however you want to do it, so that’s an advantage.

We take a peek at their existing site. We look at the mistakes they make on their website. Big mistakes on the website are generally, one, the banner is too big. Number two is the banner is not named, it’s just 1-2-3. jpeg, it’s not using the domain name or keywords. They don’t have the keywords in the alt tags or whatever it is for that. But their main thing, and this is important on YouTube and when you do internet radio, search engines are based on text. Write that down. So many people get excited about video and audio, make it and put it up but there’s no text to go with it. They don’t use their keywords well in their description of the video or the audio.

When we conduct an interview on radio let’s say, we make sure we write an abstract that’s a two to four sentence paragraph that has the keywords for the interview but also hopefully keywords related to what we do, which is get more customers. So, ‘Today we talk to Joe Blog about how to get more customers using color graphics. Then next week we’re going to talk about Joe Blow about how to get more customers using audio files.’ Each time that you post it, you get the keywords in there and it’s text.

So even if the audio is great and it’s a twenty minute interview or even an hour long interview, search engines cannot read that. So many times I see people put content on their site that’s just not findable, it’s not searchable because it doesn’t have a text that linked to it. A big mistake people make when they build a website is that people put pictures on their site. Say you’re at a conference, and you meet some famous person. You want to put a caption underneath the picture, ‘X meets y and talks about how to get more customers’ in the caption. Even when people do a Google search on images, they’ll find you.

The first two steps are obviously leveraging off what resources you’ve already got. Then you want to look at your own site, do whatever on page optimization you can which would be both SEO and also from a conversion point of view when you’re talking about the banners and things like that. Once they’re leveraged off what they’ve got, they’re cleaned up so that when the user hits that site they really do start driving some traffic. You’re getting some benefit which takes advantage of what is the focus of what we’re trying to do here? Why have you got this page up? We’re not just building a site for building a site’s sake. We want it to make leads or we want to go straight to the sale, whatever the case may be.

Webmasters Tips – How to Earn More with Google AdSense

March 5th, 2010

Know anything about Google AdSense? If you have an online business, for sure you do. They are advertisement units that you can place within your site and earn revenue when online visitors click on them. However, they are not advertisements of your own site, but of other companies related to your products or services.

But you see, signing up for Google AdSense does not end in putting ads units to your site and waiting for click-throughs. If you really want to improve your Google AdSense earnings, here are some webmasters tips that you should follow.

1. Choose an ad format that will work well for your site. According to Google, the formats that often result in highest number of click-throughs are the 336 x 280 rectangle, the 300 x 250 rectangle and the 160 x 600 sky scraper.

2. Create a custom palette for your Google ads. How to do this? Make sure to choose a color that blends well with your site’s background. That way, your ads will look as if they are really part of your web pages.

3. Position your ads where online visitors can see them at once. You can place them at the sidebars, at the bottom of each article, or under the header.

4. Don’t stick to a single ad unit. Based on Google’s Terms of Service, you are allowed to include up to three ad units per page. So take advantage of that.

5. Update your content regularly. This is the most effective way that you can do to increase traffic. Take note: the more online visitors your site has, the more clicks you can get to improve your earnings.

Increasing your Google Adsense earnings can be as easy as counting 1-2-3 if you keep these webmasters tips in mind. For more SEO tips and techniques, visit www.lazyjon.com.

Take Advantage of Free Google Webmasters Tools

March 2nd, 2010

Who said that nothing in life is free? Because whoever that was didn’t know about Google’s free webmasters tools. That’s right! If you have a website and you are thinking about developing it, then you need webmasters tools.

Webmasters tools provide so many benefits in the proper development of your website. One of which is to help you understand how your website is being searched by Google and how you can make it more Google-friendly. However, some people have second thoughts about using them because they don’t want to pay for certain fees. Little do they know that there are actually a lot of resources from the web that they can use for free.

There are four webmasters tools that you can take advantage of from Google. These include the diagnostics, statistics, links, and sitemaps. All these have different uses. The diagnostics tool, for one, is used to know what errors or problems Google encountered when crawling your website. Also, it provides information about web crawl, mobile crawl, and content analysis.

Statistics tool, on the other hand, provides you with the following information: top search queries, crawl stats, what Googlebot sees, subscriber stats, and index stats. This is actually one of the most interesting parts of the webmasters tools because here you can see what people enter for queries and provide your site as a result. Also, this tool helps you see how many people clicked the link to your site and when your site was crawled.

As for the links tool, you need it to keep track of the pages with external links, pages with internal links, and site links. This will also provide you information as to what pages of your site other sites linked to the most and if there are pages that link to other internal pages.

And finally, you have the sitemaps tool. This shows all the pages that your site contains so that it will be a lot easier for Google to index and crawl it.

So there you have the free webmasters tools from Google. And since they’re free, you don’t have to think twice now about using them.

Link Building For SEO

March 1st, 2010

As you should know link building for seo is very important. I want to talk about link reputation and link popularity. When we think of links getting fired to your website, there are two factors that we need to take into account, link reputation and link popularity. Link popularity has to do with how many links, or how strong the links are. It’s important to have high link popularity. The other thing that is important is reputation. We can have lots of links pointing to the website, but unless they’re pointing to the website with the right word, they’re not going to be that important.

What is a reputation? Reputation is what people say about you. What the links are saying about you is the link reputation, whereas link popularity has to do with how many links we’re getting. It’s important to have good link popularity and good link reputation.

Let’s consider ways to get inbound links. We’ll start with what I consider to be the best and easiest way. First there are articles. Articles are fantastic because there are articles directories across the internet and there are websites that collect people’s articles, almost like a repository of articles where people will go and submit articles. For submitting the article, you get to put something in what is known as the resource box. At the bottom of all articles there is a resource box, and usually it is something that points back to the author.

You can point your articles back to your website. You might go off to an article directory, and one of the best ones is EzineArticles.com. You publish your article and the resource box you link back to your website. You would make sure you have your keyword in the resource box and link it through and also you might have the url. It varies depending on the site. Some sites will let you have more links in there, and other sites will let you have fewer links there.

Articles are the best thing to do. You can get articles written- there are article services out there. You can go to rentacoder, you can go to needanarticle. You can get articles written for you, keyword optimised already and then you can publish them. An important point is that it is better to have these articles keyword optimised, and here’s why. First, you might be able to get that article to rank itself off the back of ezine articles. You might get it to come up in the search engine and rank for the keyword you are optimizing for. That’s why it’s important to have it optimized.

The other reason builds on the idea of link reputation. A link that comes from a page, if that page is on topic, is important. Let’s say we had two articles, one on dog’s health and one on the best wine. The link about wine is coming from a page about wine, so it is more important. But the real reason is, if you optimize you might get ranked in the search engine and you also might come up higher on the article directory itself. The article directory has its own search features. This can be a key feature of your link building for seo strategy.

Knowing What Longtail SEO Means

March 1st, 2010

A ‘How to SEO’ session must look at the longtail. There is another thing to keep in mind when talking about keywords that people are searching for. Let’s say person 1 types in Sony camera into the search engine. Person 2 types in Sony camera handycam xpf250 hybrid. What do we know about the difference between these two people? Person 1 is getting a variety of Sony cameras because they’re probably doing research. Person 2 is a buyer.

Think of someone heading down a sales funnel, towards the sale. Each step they go down they are getting more qualified as they go through. When you go for longer tail keywords, you’re further down the funnel because you’re getting someone more qualified because they know what they are looking for now. I’m no longer a browser, I’m now a buyer.

It would be great to rank for Sony camera because you would get lots of traffic. Sony camera would get a lot more than some of these longer tail keywords. You need a balance. Going for the longer tail keywords can be more profitable on a per user basis. The benefit is for Sony camera we’re going to get a lot more traffic, and with the longer tail we are going to get less traffic but chances are they convert higher because they are buyers. For Sony camera we get 550,000, but for other ones like Sony Erikson k8001 camera, using free Google keyword tool, we get 590 searches. In this example we’ve got 590 versus 550,000. We’re talking a big difference in the number of searches. But the person searching the longer tail keyword is going to be a lot more qualified and it will be easier to rank for that. It’s going to be extremely competitive to rank for Sony camera especially when you think of some of the different websites you are going to try to rank against.

I think there is a good chance the Sony website will be ranking for Sony camera. Why? There are lots of people out there all over the internet linking to the Sony website with the word Sony.

This leads me to another point. When you are starting up a domain name, it’s a good idea to have your primary keyword in the domain name. For example, let’s take a soccer drill website. I probably went for soccer drill is because I think soccer drills, plural, is probably taken. The reason you have the keyword in there, is when people link to our soccer drill website, they link in a variety of different ways. People may link with just the keyword in the anchor text and they’ll link to other people who’ll link to our website with the URL.

When they’re linking to our website with the url. What are they doing? The keyword is there. It’s like they’re voting for our website and they’re also saying what our website is about by the keyword. There is speculation that, by having the keyword in the domain name, you will rank better than someone who doesn’t. It may or may not have a small increase but I think the reason the domain name with the keyword ranks better is not because the keyword is in there, but rather people are linking to the domain name and it has the keyword in it.

It is better to have the keyword in the domain name. Consider the Sony camera example. We can have many websites such as forums and camera forums, they might say I bought the Sony handycam and the Sony website is sony.com. They’re shooting a whole lot of links all over the internet and because that is a big brand name there are going to be hundreds of websites all linking back to the Sony website, all saying Sony. So there’s a pretty good chance it is going to rank for Sony camera. I’m sure people will be linking to Sony camera. So the Sony website is probably going to rank number one.

That’s why we&’re going to have a better chance if we go for the longer tail keywords. If you remember back to the way Google works, Google will rank your website based on a few things. First, what the web page says, so you want to do all the on page optimisation and second what other people say about your website. We might be able to rank for Sony camera handycam xpf250 hybrid because there may not be too many people linking to the Sony website with that keyword. But I think we could try and rank for that because we could build a page that optimized specifically for that keyword and then also via a link to that to say exactly what we want it to say.
