Halo 3

January 7th, 2010

The other day, while searching the Internet for details on the Halo 3 weapons cheats, I came across a number of what-if situations? What if Master Chief fought different famous characters from films, comic books, and legends? Here follows a list of some of these battles and my take on the result.

While technically not a Halo 3 weapon cheat, the match-up of Master Chief versus Robocop could be interesting. According to the information on the Internet both have several similarities. They’re both human, they’ve both been enhanced, they both have amazing armour and they are both experienced combatants. Most voters thought that Master Chief would defeat Robocop, but let’s be honest here, Master Chief can be put down with a hand-gun, whereas Robocop was still going after being blown up at a petrol station. The verdict has to go to Robocop.

If Master Chief took on the next combatant he would need to have a Halo 3 weapon cheat. The next is MacGyver. Master Chief has a lot going for him. He is an expert with a variety of weapons; he has that amazing armour; he has some marvellous vehicles at his disposal; he’s a Clint Eastwood type loner and he can regenerate himself. However, in short, MacGyver is brain over brawn. It would probably boil down to the same considerations in a fight between Batman and Superman. However, if it’s a closed arena where it’s man versus man, Master Chief is going to win. But put this contest in the real world with Swiss army knives and plastic tape at his disposal, and MacGyver’s going to murder our futuristic friend.

Up until now Master Chief is 2-0 down, and it’s starting to seem like he could definitely use a Halo 3 weapon cheat or two. But let’s give him another opponent. This time it’s going to be Master Chief versus the Terminator. We already know Master Chief’s powers, the Terminator’s consist of an ability to master every weapon, relentless willpower, doesn’t get tired, amazing focus to destroy his target. It all comes down to the Spartan laser weapon. As one voter said, if Master Chief can destroy vehicles with this weapon he can certainly blow a sizeable hole in the Terminator too.

Let’s have one more contest before Master Chief finds his Halo 3 weapon cheat. What can he do against Boba Fett from Star Wars? The only differences between Master Chief and Boba Fett are that Boba has no shields, owns his own ship and has a jet pack.

Many people believe Star Wars comes out on top in this battle, but Master Chief’s weapons are much more powerful than those owned by the bounty hunter. This one makes it two all, Master Chief goes 50-50.

So, those are the results. In this small poll that we read on the Internet, Master Chief is your average sort of super hero, who is not guaranteed to win every contest, unless he finds his weapon cheats or the story writers want him to, that is.

Halo 3 Modification

January 6th, 2010

A Halo 3 mod is generally thought of as any software modification that changes the game play in the very popular video game for the Xbox 360, Halo 3. But the terminology also includes many other modifications, such as physical changes made to the Xbox 360 console to show the world that you are a hard-core Halo fanatic.

However, before someone can create a Halo 3 mod, they must have the right tools, along with some technical expertise. These tools usually include a couple of bits of software that allow people to de-construct, edit, and reconstruct Halo 3 files. It would also involve some hardware to allow the Xbox 360 hard drive to be read into a PC and the files to be downloaded to that hard drive.

You have to do this because the Xbox 360 is not a unit on which files can be modified. In the past, the hardware developers, in this case Microsoft, made the tools available to those who paid the licensing fee. But as time passed, especially in the case of Halo 3 mods, the community has developed several tools and techniques to accomplish what needs to be done for modification.

A Halo 3 mod also encompasses, as written earlier, physical alterations to the Xbox 360 console itself. For example, some people might take off the casing and actually carve the words ‘Halo 3′ out of it. They might also compliment this by painting the console red, blue or green to match the colour of the armour of their favourite characters in the game.

It’s a rather extreme way to say to the world – I love Halo 3 – in that sometimes it could result in actual damage that renders the Xbox 360 unplayable. People often display their customized Xbox 360s on photo-sharing sites such as Flickr and when they go toattend live LAN events.

One of the things that people who are interested in the world of the Halo 3 mod try to focus on is that the mods should not be created for cheating. Modifications are fun to get a new twist on Halo 3 play, or a new look or feel for certain levels. But if they’re used to make the game unfair in favour of one person or team, they destroy the overall game experience for everyone.

One website where a person can find many a Halo 3 mod is H3mod.com. The site calls itself the ‘future of Halo modding’. It seems to me to be a good place to start if you really want to find out more about a certain Halo 3 mod.

When Was Halo 3 Released?

December 22nd, 2009

On May 15, 2007 the information was out ” the Halo 3 release date would be September 25 in North America and the 26th in Europe. Halo 3 marked the third in a wildly popular series for the Xbox 360 called Halo. According to the vice president of Microsoft’s interactive entertainment business, Halo 3’s release was more than just a video game release, it was the biggest entertainment event of the year. He may just have been right.

The full history of Halo 3 really has to start with the publication of the first game in the series ‘Halo: Combat Evolved’. In November, 2001, when Halo was first released, game consoles were something of a joke as one-person shoot-em-up games. Sure, some games existed, but there weren’t the popular following that the PC games in the genre had.

That was all changed in Halo, in which players could battle aliens on foot and in vehicles, in order to complete objectives, while trying to uncover the secret of the Halo. Halo was the first to limit the amount of weapons a player could carry to two, which in turn, meant forcing the player to take strategic decisions in order to complete his missions.

People waited for the release of Halo 3 with baited breath. They awaited the continuation of the one-person, shoot-em-up combat format that had been dominant in the two former versions of Halo. Microsoft calls it the ‘Golden Triangle of Halo’, which consists of gun-type weapons, grenades and others. In reality, this was not new to one-person, shoot-em-up games, as it had existed since the very first Doom and even the predecessor to that game, Wolfenstein.

So, with all of that history behind it, people were very excited over the Halo 3 release date. How popular and welcome was the game? Well, before its release, 3.1 million copies were sold in advance orders and retailers were sure that that was not enough.

The game grossed $300 million in the United States in just its first week. Overall, it has sold over nine million copies worldwide and was the best-selling video game in the United States in 2007. Even the critics loved it, putting it the seventh highest in the all-time list of Xbox 360 games.

The Halo 3 release date, like the release date of many wildly popular video games was almost like a holiday like Christmas or Easter. It leaves us with the question of what will happen with video games in the future?

Screenshots from Halo 3

December 22nd, 2009

When a video game series is as wildly popular as the Halo series, which includes Halo 3, of course, then the result is going to be many screenshots takes. This piece focuses on some of the weird and wild Halo 3 screenshots.

Before we get on to the Halo 3 screenshots specifically, let’s have a look at the figures that create all of this media. Over 9 million copies of Halo 3 have been sold to date. That means that if every person who purchased the game plays for only 10 hours, there are more than 90 million hours of game time from which to make screenshots. A lot can happen in 90 million hours, and with all the picture-uploading websites available to people, a lot of it has been uploaded.

One of the things in Halo 3 that has frequently been copied in Halo 3 screenshots is the identity of Master Chief or more specifically, what his face is like. If you use Google to look up the top 10 Halo 3 screenshots, you’ll find a picture of Master Chief lying dead on the ground, clearly not showing a face inside his helmet. This explains why we never see his face, say many people, because he does not actually have one.

Another one of the top Halo 3 screenshots showing in the 10 most popular Halo 3 screenshots is the one of a Marine getting hammered on a floodgate. Someone posted that it looked a lot like Han Solo when he was frozen in Carbonite. And guess what? – they’re totally correct.

The makers of Halo 3 decided to make it much easier for people to take Halo 3 screenshots and to share them all over the Internet. To accomplish this they created a saved films feature right inside the game. This feature permits players to slow down the action, or even to freeze it, change the camera angles and even move the camera around to get exactly the screenshot they would like to see. Generally speaking, the ‘Save Films’ feature records all the action that occurs in the game, so it can later be turned into videos are screenshots.

Another feature that has a lot to do with Halo 3 screenshots in the ‘Save Films’ feature, is the watching of previously saved films. You see, the saves are not just images or video, they’re actual game data. This means two things: 1] the file size is pretty small and 2] the entire game can be watched from different angles on the Xbox 360.

This means to say that a player can replay a game again and again, finding new things in new places every time they replay it. That’s a great deal better than plain Halo 3 screenshots.

Home Movie Theater: Screens

November 20th, 2009

When it comes to choosing a screen, the first consideration is the type of screen you want or even need. If the room where you are setting up your home theater is large, then you will have to have a home theater projection screen or maybe you just want one anyway.

I, personally, like the idea of having a drop-down screen, but sometimes you have to have one even in a modest home theater. It converts your living room into a home theater: you recline in your chair; click a button and a screen drops down; click a button and the lights dim; click another one and the movie begins!

If you prefer a television screen, then you might consider buying a new one if you can afford it. They say that a 27 inch screen is adequate, but I do not think that it is. In my opinion, you really need 48-60 inches, but then I am a baby-boomer and my eyes are definitely not what they once were.

If you are buying a new TV for your home theater, I think you should aim high. HDTV is upon us and since February 2009 the USA is committed to High Definition. So, I would make sure that your new TV is capable of receiving it. Then I suggest that the new home theater screen be a flat one to reduce the annoying glare that could ruin the experience. (This could be another reason for opting for a projection screen).

Then you should ensure that your new television has enough input and output plugs for the equipment you have in mind and you’re ready. Therefore, to summarize, I would choose:

More than a 27 inch screen

A flat screen

HDTV enabled

Plenty of input and output plugs

Satellite enabled

I would definitely recommend satellite compatibility for the TV receiver because it is the future or even the near future. If you get a satellite television connection you will be able to store HDTV downloads which you can watch on your new home movie theater set-up whenever you like.

Halo 3 Free Download

October 10th, 2009

The marketing of Halo 3 was wildly anticipated, as the video was the third in the original three-part series of the Halo games. Therefore, the Halo 3 trial download was one of the most frequently downloaded game demos in the history of the Xbox 360. But what many people don’t realize is that the Halo 3 trial download went on to make another game ie Crackdown.

What does the Halo 3 demo download have to do with any another video game? Well, it has a lot to do with the sale and promotional effort for a video that was originally meant for release on the Xbox system. Microsoft had become worried that Crackdown wouldn’t sell well.

And so they employed a marketing tactic, the one of bundling Crackdown with an access code to the Halo 3 trial download. And it worked a treat because Crackdown sold 1.5 million copies within the first half year of its release. Those aren’t Halo 3 figures, which sold 8.1 million copies in slightly over a year, but for a lesser well-known game that’s absolutely fantastic.

Microsoft had turned to the Halo 3 trial download tactic because of poor opinions about the game from the play testers. They thought the nonlinear nature of the game confusing, often leaving them wondering what they were meant to be doing next.

As a result of this, the powers that be knew that something had to be done or the game would be a dud. It may appear shady practice at first to attempt to push sales of a game that’s expected to be unpopular, but in retrospect people like the game and it was a good thing that they were able to get the chance to play it.

In Crackdown, and that includes the one bundled with the Halo 3 free download, people play as an agent who is detailed to defeat the kingpins, or leaders, of various gangs. To do this they make use of various superhuman powers such as super strength and super agility. In order to obtain these powers, players have to accumulate experience by defeating enemies who then release experience orbs. The clever part of the system was that the kind of orbs released was reliant on the method in which the agent killed the enemy. For example, a firearms orb appears if the enemy was killed with a gun.

So, although at first sight this game bundled with the Halo 3 free download seems to be nothing but a veiled marketing gimmick, in reality, it exposed gamers to a fascinating new gameplay world.
